Strength that Never Fails

Psalm 73:26 (NKJV)
26  My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psalm 73:26 (AMP)
26  My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the Rock and firm Strength of my heart and my Portion forever.

For those who walk by faith there is an ongoing tension between Two kinds of life

One is Visible and External, the other Invisible and Eternal. The External is fading, it is impermanent. But there is something inside every believer that is Eternal – something from God that is linked directly to Him, something that does not fade or wither.

Paul writes on this tension for his own personal experience:

2 Corinthians 4:16 (NKJV)
16  Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day… 18  while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Biblical Truth is always held in a place of spiritual tension. It is always between that which is seen and that which is not seen and that which we feel and that which is of faith. The force of a great river is a result of the impediments or the banks of that river. Without those impediments the river would have no force or power, it would be nothing more than a placid lake or pond. Truth must have a place of tension to be effective. The world has their view of Truth, but those of us who have been born of the Spirit of God hold to a Truth that is opposing and often contrary. The conflict between these two opposing Truths and realities create a tremendous amount of tension. Biblical Truth must always be held in a place of tension to be effective and dynamic. The preaching of the gospel is foolishness to those who are perishing (I Cor. 1:18). I have always told my children if they want to find the will of God concerning an issue, find out what the world is doing and do a 180 and you can most often find the will of God. The worlds view of life is diametrically opposed to those who follow the Scriptures. Within the life that is committed to the Lord and to His ways there is an inner source of strength and wisdom not subject to the weaknesses, fears and fluctuation of the natural world.

In 1936 there was a civil war in Spain that gave rise to the phrase fifth column. It happened that a Spanish general was besieging a Spanish city, and a second general asked him about his plan to capture it. “I have four columns attacking the city, the first general replied, “from the north, the south, the east and the west. But it’s my Fifth column that I’m expecting to take the city for me.” “Where is your Fifth column?” the second general asked. The reply was brief; “Inside the city.”

So it is with us as Christians. We can Never be defeated from without as we wall in agreement with the Word of God, but if there is a hidden Fifth Column of God’s enemies in our life’s, in our walk with the Lord, not if but when the devil comes to check you out to see if the Truth you say you believe, is only in your head and not your heart, that Fifth Column from within will bring you down. Mentally accenting to the Truth and not believing it in your heart always produces defeat and disappointment. As the psalmist has declared:

Psalm 73:26 (NKJV)
26  My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

In the unfolding of the last days, each Christian, each Bible believing Church will be challenged concerning the Truth. Just over the last few years the challenge concerning Biblical Truth is on the forefront of the Christians battle field. God’s Truth, the Bible Truth must be internalized in our spirits and not just mentally accented to. The apostle Paul declared in Romans 7:22 (KJV): “For I delight in the law of God after the inward man”. Paul also declared in Romans 10:10 (KJV) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” The apostle Peter adds in 1 Peter 3:4 (KJV), “But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

Psalm 73:26 (NKJV)
26  My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
